We want them to excel! The Neilson Academy is a licensed private school, specializing in the education of students who are actively pursuing their goals in life. The school is designed to help every student really GET an education. We know that students may need a number of approaches to accomplish their goals: specific study skills, individualized programs, one-on-one help, or special schedules. The Neilson Academy can provide that help. The Basics Assessment of current functional grade levels in basic English and math helps pinpoint problem areas.The students receive individual programs either to polish up those basics or to continue with their regular grade levels. Each student sets targets with the teachers daily. Teachers work with the students emphasizing academic skills, self-motivation, and high independent production. Although we demand production by the student, individual attention and care are given to handle any slow progress or non-comprehension. Communication between teacher and student is vital. To ensure this communication, we have a teacher to student ratio of one to ten (or fewer). Upon entering the school, students do a study course to become aware of barriers that may be encountered in their studies. (These study methods, known as Study Technology, were developed by author and humanitarian, L. Ron Hubbard.) They learn how to handle independently any difficulties that may arise while studying. Students are self-paced with required classwork and homework.
